CLICK HERE, SWISS OPEN-AIR MUSEUM BALLENBERG

Ballenberg - Switzerland as it used to be. More than one hundred century-old buildings from all over Switzerland, 250 farmyard animals, traditional, old-time gardens and fields, demonstrations of local crafts and many special events create a vivid impression of rural life in days gone by. Ballenberg is indeed unique.

The museum is in hibernation until the 9th of April 2009. We are looking forward to seeing you from the 10th April 2009.

Join in and experience traditional Switzerland

Our doors are open
Come and have a look round the kitchens, bedrooms and living rooms of the authentically reassembled homes and farm buildings from centuries past. On a spacious 66 hectares you'll be able to admire typical homes and hamlets from virtually every part of Switzerland.

Watch us at work
Craftsmen demonstrate old crafts and trades in traditional workshops using original tools. There is wood carving, basket weaving, spinning, weaving, bobbin-lace making and forging, cheese making and bread baking, to name but a few.

The perfect place to make new friends
Ballenberg is one of a kind: you and your children have an opportunity to watch the many kinds of farm animals found in Switzerland at close range (some you can even pet). Several species no longer exist elsewhere in the country.

Witness old costums
We revive ancient folk customs, from old-time costumes and dance to linen processing and our traditional autumn market. Further information and dates can be found in the calendar of events or from the information telephone: +41 (0)33 952 10 40 .

Still your hunger, quench your thirst
Should you feel hungry or thirsty, visit one of our three pleasant restaurants for a typically Swiss meal. If a barbecue appeals to you, put your own wood on the fire from ready supplies at one of our picnic areas
